Are you using Ubuntu? If so, what flavor and version? If it's an older one it could be a kernel problem. Have you tried disabling IPv6? Or perhaps you could try using a different network manager like Wicd? See itsfoss.com/speed-up-slow-wifi-connection-ubuntu
