I recently bought a laptop Lenovo S510p and installed windows 7 on it.Now I am trying to dual boot it with ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. I did not want to manually create a partition on my hard disk in windows for ubuntu. But when I try to install ubuntu it does not detect windows 7 and does not give me the option to install ubuntu alongside windows and allocate hard disk space for it. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and the way to work around this? Please answer this if you have had a similar problem on a recent laptop.

I've had the same thing happen I just manually partitioned it, it's really not that complicated if you follow steps listed here: How to use manual partitioning during installation?

            • I get that the steps are not very complicated but my ubuntu doesnot detect that I have an already installed windows 7 on my hard disk,I may choose something else and install ubuntu after creating a partition from there, but I am afraid that if something goes wrong my windows os might get damaged in the process.
