If I use dd command make an img file to back up my disk when I am using Ubuntu Live USB, and than I format my disk. Can I restore my file from that img file? (including the data is not files)

  • In theory, yes, However, test it carefully first. 'dd' is appropriately known among oldsters as 'data destroyer' or 'disk destroyer' because it's a power-saw without any handguards on it. It's very easy to make a terrible and non-reversible mistake. Many safer backup method are easily available.
