El picoplano alirrufo, picochato alirrufo, pico chato de alas bermejas, picochato chico, o picochato grande (Platyrinchus leucoryphus),[2]​ es una especie que integra el género Platyrinchus, de la familia Tyrannidae. Esta ave se distribuye en el centro-este de América del Sur.




Vegetación selvática correspondiente a la provincia fitogeográfica Paranaense; el hábitat de esta especie.

Distribución y hábitat


Se extiende por el sudeste del Brasil, desde São Paulo y Espírito Santo hacia el sur, llegando al este del Paraguay, y el extremo noreste de la Argentina, en el parque nacional Iguazú, extremo norte de Misiones, país en donde es muy raro.[3]​[4]​


Habita en el estrato bajo y medio de selvas primarias y secundarias, cerca del agua.



Taxonomía


Esta especie monotípica fue descrita originalmente por Wied en el año 1831, bajo el mismo nombre científico. Su localidad tipo es: «Itapemirim, Espírito Santo, Brasil». Las relaciones de esta especie con otros integrantes del género aún no son claras.[5]​
