I installed Ubuntu 18.04.02 LTS, initially I had the problem of not being able to manage the brightness, neither through the hotkeys F11 and F12 nor through the control panel at the top right, (where there is also the switch-off button).
I followed the answer suggested by Ducky (here Brightness problem Ubuntu 18.04 LTS), in particular the second solution (acpi_backlight=video). This allows me to correctly change the brightness from the top right menu, but it still does not allow me to change the brightness using the Fn+F11 and Fn+F12 shortcuts.
What might it depend on?
[solved]
I solved by going to edit the /etc/default/grub file by putting the following lines:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
shortcut-keys dell brightness
