I have an Asus gaming laptop that I am trying to put Ubuntu on.

Even if you disable secure boot and fast boot in the BIOS there is no CSM support so you cannot install an OS from thumb drive or CD-ROM.

Their support line confirms that you have to use Windows on all their new computers and you cannot change the OS.

Do you have any suggestions? I mean outside of a class action lawsuit for enforcing a monopoly on PC users. These companies have lots of money and it should be an open and shut case.

PC information:

  Product type: Gaming notebook

  Model: GU501GM

  S/N: K1NRCV00Z500028

Operating system / Firmware or BIOS version: BIOS ver. 308

"Their support line confirms that you have to use Microsoft os on all their new computers and you cannot change the OS" That is illegal in my country. But I do not believe that that is true. Google shows several topics about installing other OS on this machine. This machine allows only boot from UEFI so you -can- install Ubuntu on it. Just got to follow the correct procedure.

You don't need CSM to install Ubuntu. You may want to read the UEFI Ubuntu Wiki Entry

Don't repeat it can't be done. Tell us how you created your boot medium, and how you have tried to boot from USB.

Hello, You can install Ubuntu according to this blog post, but as I can see it will not be the world's most convenient thing to use. In case you can dou, please switch to DELL (or some other vendor's lineups) which respects personal choices better.
