I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40CX520 TV connected to my Mythbuntu box (Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS) via HDMI. The TV is detected and shows up correctly under Settings-> Display. The box is running an AMD-A4 APU, with open source radeon driver. There is no other graphics card installed.
If the TV is turned on while MythTV is already running, or the TV is turned off and then on again, result is just a blank screen with no video/audio. The only way to restore the display would be to reboot the system while the TV remains on.
I can remote in via ssh and run xrandr. The only difference I see when there is no signal is that the (*) asterisk indicating the current mode disappears:
mythtvuser@mythtv-1:~$ xrandr -display :0.0
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384

So right now, I could implement a workaround, but I'm interested in a fix to the problem itself.
One thing that I have noticed, is the issue only occurs when in graphics mode. If I switch to tty (Ctrl + Alt + 1), I'm able to turn the TV off and on without losing the signal.
I suspect the problem is X related, or there is some desktop configuration option, but not really sure what to do from here. Any advice is appreciated.
