I just updated from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 and all of a sudden when I start up i have to keep going into recovery mode to rebuild files. If I try and reboot normally I get a message that says it can't find lvmetad.

Can you boot from a live USB and runfsck -f /dev/xxxxon your partitions from there?
