So i'm very new to using linux. The main reason i'm using it is because i have a chromebook and its extremely easy to install and I didn't have to get rid of chrome OS to do it.

I think i'm using crouton which is basically Unix i think? I was kind of being lazy and didn't feel like reading the instructions to install the Tor browser through the terminal so i just tried 'sudo apt-get install tor' which actually worked and installed some stuff, it, however, didn't install the tor browser as i had hoped. I've managed to get it since but i'm kind of paranoid about whatever it is i installed.

Should i worry about this and try to remove it?

EDIT: as a side question, i think it's really cool how the apt-get install function works. I typed firefox at the end and it got me firefox, i type transmission and i receive a cool torrent program. How exactly does it work that i can type that command and a program i want and it just gets it for me?

Possible off-topic question. We support Ubuntu (and official flavors) here, not generic linux or unix (SE's Unix & Linux site would be more appropriate for that). You haven't even mentioned Ubuntu in your question, or if any of this relates to Ubuntu (and not just generic debian packaging).

  • Wow thanks for not answering my question and rating the question down dude, that's very helpful of you. Sorry I typed in linux help forum into bing and it showed this in the results. I'm so sorry i don't understand Linux enough to understand this question is off topic. Maybe instead of thumbs downing me and chastising me you tell me where to go to actually get help since I indeed thought this was a legitimate place to ask my question?

I hadn't down-voted your question, nor had I even voted to close the question (as off-topic) - I only commented my concerns waiting to see if you'd clarify your question. This is not a Linux help forum, it's a Ubuntu user support forum. I provided clues with the SE's Unix & Linux; a sister site to this one, but with your attitude I'm not doing a search for you

askubuntu.com/help/on-topic will provide some clues as to what's on topic, and what's not, but I still don't see anything related to Ubuntu in anything you've put. I was pointing you to unix.stackexchange.com I got from a startpage.com search (using clues I provided in first comment). If you follow site rules you'll find better responses, also remember honey gets more help than vinegar.
