Hans Kohn (Praga, 15 de septiembre de 1891[1]​-Philadelphia,[2]​ 16 de marzo de 1971)[3]​ fue un historiador estadounidense, de origen centroeuropeo, destacado por sus estudios sobre el nacionalismo.[4]​ Nacido en una familia judía,[5]​ durante la Primera Guerra Mundial batalló en las filas del Imperio austrohúngaro[1]​[6]​ y fue hecho prisionero por los rusos,[6]​ durante cinco años.[7]​ En su juventud mantuvo posiciones fuertemente sionistas,[8]​[9]​ aunque terminaría rompiendo con el movimiento.[10]​ Emigró a América en 1933[6]​ o 1934.[11]​


Su obra más importante[12]​ fue The idea of Nationalism, publicada por The Macmillan Company en 1944.[13]​[4]​ También fue autor de Revolutions and Dictatorships (1939),[14]​ The Twentieth Century (1949),[15]​ Pan-Slavism: Its History and Ideology (1953),[16]​ Nationalism its meaning and history (1955),[17]​[a]​ American Nationalism: An Interpretative Essay (1957),[19]​ The Mind of Germany: The Education of a Nation (1960),[20]​[21]​ Reflections on Modern History: The Historian and Human Responsibility (1963)[22]​ o Living in a World Revolution. My Encounters with History (1964),[6]​ entre otros trabajos. Fue editor de German History: Some New German Views (1954).[23]​
