I modified /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf (apple hardware or something) to swap the fkeys (f11 changes from volume down to f11 without the need for fn) and, on reboot, the battery status indicator came back. I moved hid_apple.conf away from /etc/modprobe.d/, rebooted, and the battery indicator came back. Any help would be great. Using Ubuntu 18.10 in Vanilla GNOME 3 on a late 2017 MacBook Air.
