I try to use my Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 firewire audio interface with Kubuntu 18.10 on my Dell LATITUDE E6510 Laptop.
without any changes to the system (as fare as i know/remember) it gets detected if i plug it in. I can configure it so i have my system sounds (firefox media or other media players) coming out from it. yeah! ;-)

but after some time - seconds up to minutes - seems random - the connection crashes:

dmesg
...
[ 2273.445706] firewire_ohci 0000:04:00.4: DMA context IT0 has stopped, error code: evt_timeout
[ 2273.445722] firewire_ohci 0000:04:00.4: DMA context IR0 has stopped, error code: evt_descriptor_read

i have searched up and down the net a little -
one recommendation is to use a special driver the ffado project and jack.

i have setup jack with pulseaudio as in this answer. That is working fine with the default system audio out.
but i can't get jack configured to use the alternative firewire driver (ffado):
qjackctl setup dialog - missing device

i think the problem is that the device is 'captured' some how by some other system service - as it is working as audio output this way... (but with the stability-problem / crashes mentioned above..)

ffado-mixer is working correctly (as long as the connection has not crashed)

iam correct with this thought?
how could i check / isolate this some more?
