La región Chimalhuacán se localiza al noreste del estado de México y se le conoce también como la Región III y es una de las regiones con mayor extensión territorial del Estado. Tiene una superficie de 38 305 km² y comprende el 32,8 % del territorio de la entidad.[1]​

Lo conforman los municipios de:



  • Chimalhuacán;


  • Chicoloapan;


  • La Paz.

  • Ixtapaluca

La cabecera de la región es Chimalhuacán. En la región predominan los climas fríos y templados sub-húmedos y los relieves valles con lomerios que se desprenden del Eje Neovolcánico. La producción agrícola es una actividad muy importante debido a la presencia de riachuelos y las aguas del canal de desagüe de la Ciudad de México. Se desarrolla también la ganadería y la artesanía.



Economía


El sector industrial es la mayor fuente de actividad dentro de la región.
El comercio informal es la principal fuente de trabajo y derrama económica en el municipio.
